installing ubuntu-restricted-extras under wubi

Posted by admin  Published in Audio, DVD, Music, apt-get, sound

From: Jose B 28 April at 01:49

When installing Linux on your Windows machine using Wubi, your Linux installation will not have access through the synaptic package manager to the Ubuntu Restricted Extras; also you will not be able to install them through the web page either.

What I did to get around this is:

1. I opened the terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal)
2. At the prompt type: $ sudo aptget ubuntu-restricted-extras
- This will install the restricted extras packages
3. type: sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
- This will install dvd support to your linux system that was installed through Wubi

Now you will have a fully functional Linux system. This was tried on a Windows 7 machine.

How to change the output device from pulseaudio back to ALSA (gstreamer ONLY)

Posted by admin  Published in Audio, sound

Bug Report Here

I haven’t tried the solution mentioned in this other bug.

1. First, navigate to System/Preferences/Main Menu

2. Under System (in Main Menu) find Preferences.

3. Check “Multimedia System Selector”

Multimedia System Selector

4. Close.

5. Back to System/Prefrences

6. Now you will find “Multimedia System Selector”

7. Change the output from from “autodetect” to ALSA using the dropdown menu.

Alsa Output

8. Hit the Test button.

9. Close

10. We’re done! (look Ma, no reboot)

(thanks AK)

How to Play DVD’S with Totem Movie Player

Reposted from here

1. If you did NOT install the “ubuntu-restricted-extras” via synaptic
you may need to do: (at a terminal windows)

sudo apt-get install libdvdread4

if that’s already installed then just proceed to the next step:

2. sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
