Online Linux Radio

Most of you probably know and use Pandora to listen to music online but if your like me, a little bit more arbitrary and a little bit less mainstream NOT TO MENTION A LINUX USER then you might want to try SomaFM! – SomaFM is an Online Radio Podcast website that is proprietary to the Linux operating system. It features abstract underground music from various genres such as “Groove Salad” – A nicely chilled plate of ambient/downtempo beats and grooves, “Secret Agent” – The soundtrack for your stylish, mysterious, dangerous life. For Spies and PIs too! And “Space Station Soma” – Tune in, turn on, space out. Spaced-out ambient and mid-tempo electronica. Soma uses an .ogg audio format proprietary to Linux based audio codecs, this means it is not accessible to Windows users.

SomaFM is especially nice if you like techno/instrumental style music with no vocals as a majority of it’s music incorporates absolutely no singing or vocals. “If the words were so important and the music wasn’t then people would be doing sold-out spoken word tours” – Maynard James Keenen (Tool) And one track will play infinitely as it seems [all day long]  – I have never let it run long enough to find out whether the music ends at some point or not. “Mr Owl, how many songs does it take to get to the end of a SomaFM track?” – “The World May Never Know…”
